Altshuler, Berzon, Nussbaum, Rubin & Demain is a small San Francisco litigation firm that specializes in labor and employment, environmental, constitutional, campaign and election, and civil rights law. Although most of their cases are in federal and state courts in California, they appear regularly in courts throughout the country and before the National Labor Relations Board.

  • Peter D. Nussbaum (Lead Attorney)

Peter Nussbaum is a graduate of Cornell University and Harvard Law School, where he was Articles Editor of the Harvard Law Review. After law school, he served as law clerk to Judge Irving R. Kaufman of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and was then a Fulbright Scholar at the London School of Economics. Prior to entering private practice in 1974, he worked for various legal services programs, including the Center for Social Welfare, Policy and Law at Columbia University Law School. He has served as a lawyer representative and Executive Committee Member of the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference and is a member of the ABA Committee on Practice and Procedure under the National Labor Relations Act. He has served as chair of the Democratic Party of Contra Costa County and as a member of the Democratic Party’s State Executive Committee. He also lectures frequently on labor topics, including to the ABA.

  • Daniel T. Purtell (Co-counsel)

Daniel Purtell is a graduate of Stanford University and Stanford Law School. He served as a law clerk to Judge Harry Pregerson of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

  • Laura P. Juran (Co-counsel)

Laura Juran is a graduate of Northwestern University and Stanford Law School, where she was a Symposium Editor of the Stanford Law Review. She served as a law clerk to Judge Ann Aldrich of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
