This is the first in a series of educational topics that will be addressed in our monthly minutes.

EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE: Things You Need To Know

New as of April 1, 2007
Classes required by the employer will not be charged against your educational hours (includes Relief RNs) unless you want CEUs. If you do not have educational hours, you will be paid by the employer.

If CEUs are required by the employer the hours will not be charged against your educational hours.

The employer pays for all fees and materials (including books) for required classes unless you take the class elsewhere.

Non- required classes will be charged against your educational hours if you elect to receive pay.

RNs who take required classes will receive shift differential based on the time of day the class she/he attends takes place.

RNs who take non- required classes will receive their hourly rate without overtime or shift differential.

Reminders:
Attendance in required classes is eligible for overtime or double time pay.

Educational hours will continue to accrue PTO.

New hires can start using their educational benefits after 6 months.

You can use your educational benefits from September 1 to August 31.

Request education hours 30 days in advance. This is usually done by using the advanced schedule planning sheets.

You can roll-over denied education hours to the following year. At SHC, you can roll-over all denied hours. At LPCH, you can roll-over 16 denied hours. Email your manager if you are rolling-over any denied hours. Keep a copy of your email.

You can find out how much education funds you have by logging onto e-connect.

Please note, there is no Relief D at LPCH.

Bylaws
The deadline for submitting proposed changes to the Bylaws is June 30, 2007. Please email your proposed changes to the Bylaws Committee at crona@crona.org or fax to the CRONA office at 650-366-0182. Please do not fax from the hospital.

CRONA Elections
The CRONA elections will be held the last week of October 2007. The deadline for nominating Officers, Committees members, and Area Representatives is August 15, 2007. Please email your nominations to the Ballot and Election Committee at crona@crona.org or fax to the CRONA office at 650-366-0182. Please do not fax from the hospital. . You can also fax your Consent To Serve Form to the CRONA office. You can download the form from www.crona.org. We encourage our members to run for any of these positions.

Officers: President, Executive Vice President, Vice President for LPCH, Secretary, Treasurer, 2 Nurse Advocates, Legislative Representatives.

Committees: Bylaws (9 members), Finance (5 members), Ballot and Election (9 Members), Negotiation Committee for LPCH (12 members), Negotiation Committee for SHC (12 members), Contingency (12 members).

Area Representatives: All Units. Please check crona.org for the breakdown of units and the number of Area Representatives’ positions for each unit.
