CRONA March 2011 Area Representatives and Membership Meeting Minutes

CRONA
Committee for Recognition of Nursing Achievement
March 19, 2011

Healthstream
Nurses are being told by managers and Staffers that you are limited to four (4) hours pay for completing Healthstream modules. This information is inaccurate and is in violation of labor law and our CRONA contract.

You are to be paid the number of hours it takes you to complete Healthstream. If you are denied accurate payment, please email your manager and copy CRONA. We will follow up accordingly.

If you complete your Healthstream at work, make sure you are not distracted from doing your work. Omissions and mistakes at work can result in an investigatory meeting and/or disciplinary action.

Read all the modules and listen to the videos before completing the exam. If and when you are investigated and/or disciplined, the hospital will refer to Healthstream as one way to prove that you violated a policy despite completion of Healthstream.

We encourage you to complete your Healthstream now.

Prep Time for Mandatory Training/Classes
If you took any mandatory training/classes within the last three (3) years and you incurred prep time work, and your were not paid, email crona@crona.org. State the name of the mandatory training/class, the number of prep time hours and the date(s) of the prep time, including the date you took the actual training/class. The hospital has been refusing to pay for prep time. Some prep time for mandatory training/classes is compensable under the Federal Labor Standards Act and the California labor law. We need the data so we can follow up accordingly.

BLS, ACLS, PALS, NALS, NRP, Chemo Certification, TNCC and other Mandatory Training/Classes
We urge you to renew your mandatory training/classes now if they are due to expire within the next six months. Classes are available off-site in case classes are full in the CE Center.

The hours you spend taking mandatory courses on-line is paid by the hospital and not through your education (B) time.

Registration fees for courses taken on-line are reimbursed through your education funds. If your take the class on site your education fund will not be charged.

Education Hours and Education Funds
We urge you to use your education hours and education funds now (don’t forget to get preapproval from your manager). Log on to crona.org. In the Search box, type Education benefits or other words related to education. You will find information about your education benefits.

You need to submit reimbursement requests within 90 days of completing a course. Late submissions will be denied. You must submit reimbursement requests via Success Factors. Success Factors is a Human Resources system. It can be difficult to complete. Do not be discouraged in pursuing use of your education funds. If you need assistance, call and/or email the Human Resources Business Center at 650-723-4748 or email www.HR4Uonline.org.

TB Test, PPD, Mumps, Measles and Other Employment Tests
Complete your employment tests now. The Occupational Health Satellite Office is located at SHC basement down the hall from the nursing office.

California RN License
Renew your RN license as soon as you receive your renewal notice. This is even more important if you need fingerprints. You cannot work unless your name is posted on the BRN website. Sending in your check does not suffice.

CRONA Bylaws
Proposed changes to the CRONA Bylaws are being accepted through June 30, 2011. Submit your proposals to the Bylaws Committee at crona@crona.org. Proposed changes will be reviewed by the Bylaws Committee, the CRONA Executive Board and our legal team. Proposed changes will then be presented at the October CRONA Convention of the House of Representatives. The membership will vote on the changes in the Fall 2011.
